Overview
Beings found among the ancient ruins of Vale Sangora that are neither dead nor alive.
They were once warriors or guardians, but now only their duty to protect someone—or something—remains.
According to ancient legends, retainers were buried alongside their masters so that they could continue serving them after death.
A Historical Parallel: Scythian Royal Burials
The developers have not cited any specific culture or legend as the inspiration for these beings.
However, the practice of burying retainers alongside their masters has existed since ancient times.
For example, in Sections 71–72 of Book IV of Herodotus’ The Histories, which describes a Scythian royal burial, the king’s concubine, cupbearer, cook, groom, attendant, messenger, and horses are killed and buried with him.
One year later, fifty more attendants and fifty horses are killed. The attendants are then placed upon the horses and arranged around the royal tomb.
