Welcome to Kaburanai Games.

Hi, I’m KaburanaiNamae. (I changed the handle name because the previous name was similar to another person)

On this site, I write guides and reviews of indie and niche games.

I hope to share the passion of these communities… maybe I can, maybe I will?

Main genres covered

  • Indie games
  • Dungeon games
  • Life simulation games like Elona and Rune Factory
  • TTRPGs and solo journaling

“Mainly” means that if other genres catch my interest, I might write about them too.

Favorite games

Etrian Odyssey series – I’ve completed every entry except 3 and X, going as far as finishing the encyclopedia endings. Over ten years, I’ve repeatedly deleted my save data and replayed. Ponite Bushiko, Osage Kameko, and Momokami Badoko are my eternal favorites. Looking forward to the new entry.

Seiken Densetsu: Legend of Mana – A game I devoted my childhood to. It was my first experience of truly immersing myself in a game world. I loved the Ultimania guide so much that I bought a second copy to keep it pristine.

Brave Fencer Musashi – A hidden gem. I bought it for the FF8 demo and ended up hooked. Exciting adventures, memorable BGM, brutally hard action, and playful touches everywhere. I filled the strategy guide with notes and read it obsessively.

Stella Glow – Another hidden gem SRPG. The element where witches’ songs influence the story also impacts combat, and when the battle BGM (with vocals) plays for a critical turnaround, the sense of unity with the protagonists is amazing. The story is straightforward but intense. I also love the women—Hilda and Sakuya are my favorites.

Armored Core 2: Another Age – My first experience with customization-heavy games. Changing builds not only affects appearance but completely changes controls and tactics. I loved the feeling of “tinkering and experimenting!” I could endlessly scatter bits against Nine-Ball while dodging around.

Dynasty Warriors 2 – The game that got me into the Romance of the Three Kingdoms. Honestly, it influenced my life directly—it motivated me to major in East Asian history in college.

Ruina – Personally, the best indie game I’ve played. Its dense narrative shows a classical literary sensibility. The game focuses on investigating lore and planning strategies against enemies, making the high-quality text essential for gameplay, not just flavor.

Elona – A must-play life simulation indie game. Countless trash-can dunks, countless dramas.

Rune Factory 4 – A rich combo of fantasy farming, monster hunting, and romance. I could play forever. While the story isn’t complex, it hits all the right spots. Xiao Pai is just too cute, seriously.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion – My first open-world game. The sheer freedom of doing anything in the game world was shocking. Magic crafting was so fun—I created explosive spells, dressed in Daedra gear, made townspeople fight each other, and walked through the world experimenting. The remaster was too heavy on my system, so I gave up.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Played on Switch. I alternated between summoner and stealth-archer builds forever. Magic was weak, but my favorite weapon—the bow—was extremely powerful, giving incredible immersion. I want to try it again with lots of mods.

Mount & Blade – Play as a medieval battlefield commander, wielding weapons yourself while giving real-time orders and controlling the flow of battle. Few other games let you experience both the individual warrior and the general commanding an army like this—Kenshi being another.

Kenshi – Survive in a post-apocalyptic world, threatened by bandits and dogs, and build your own faction. The recommended beginner base: Gut!

Ironsworn – Surprisingly, a TTRPG fully playable solo. Its unique “oracle system” drives the story in truly unpredictable directions. Anyone who hasn’t tried it should definitely give it a go.

A stupidly intense reading streak.

I originally aimed to become a researcher in Eastern philosophy.

Because of that, I ended up doing something that’s clearly not sane:
“Over three years, I read 1,000 volumes of classics, philosophy, literature, and history books mentioned in world history textbooks.”

Yeah… the long sentences are a habit from back then. Forgive me.

Other things I want to do

  • Slow-paced explanation videos like Yukkuri or Yukari-san style.
  • Use my Level 2 Statistical Analysis certificate and English skills for statistical approaches or translating foreign articles.

That’s the general idea. Thanks for stopping by!
