The Heart Wants What It Wants – Overview
Coen first meets Ocha when she picks a fight with him at a tavern in Svartrau.
After the fight, Ocha and her friend Nora tell him about Andrei, a man who effectively controls Svartrau from the shadows.
Coen offers to help put a stop to Andrei’s tyranny.
As it turns out, Ocha has some knowledge of magic. She explains that by gathering an object tied to Andrei’s memories, she can weaken his judgment and render him harmless without killing him. Her one request is that Coen avoid killing Andrei.
Coen asks around Svartrau and eventually heads to the butcher’s shop where one of Andrei’s mementos is supposedly kept.
There, he catches Andrei brutalizing a man.
Coen ends up stepping in to save him, and before he knows it, the confrontation escalates into a fight that ends with Andrei defeated as well.
Ocha rushes in and is left at a loss. As far as she was concerned, Andrei was worth more alive than dead.
Coen and Ocha agree to meet by the river and go their separate ways for the time being.
At the riverbank, the two catch some crayfish to fill their stomachs and share a meal.
Ocha explains that although she is strong, the customs of her clan prevent her from becoming a warrior. Instead, she is expected to succeed the clan leader, a future she finds suffocating.
The conversation remains relaxed, with Coen eventually opening up about his own siblings as well.
After talking things through with Coen, Ocha finally makes up her mind: she and Nora will leave in search of freedom and a more exciting life.

What You Can Learn by Asking Around and How Much It Costs
Katja
Katja tells you that Andrei has a short temper, so it is important not to provoke or mock him and instead show that you are serious.
She is struggling financially, and you can give her 400 Denarii.
…Unfortunately, I did not have enough money on me, so I have no idea what happens if you actually pay her.
Beggar
Give the beggar 50 Denarii and he will provide information that can help you infiltrate the hideout.
After paying him, I learned that Andrei apparently deals in silver.
Branching Point – Conversation with Andrei
During the timed decision, choosing “I said let him go” to defend the man causes Andrei and his men to attack you.
After being defeated, Andrei threatens Coen, warning him that if Coen kills him, his family will not be safe.
You are then given two choices, roughly corresponding to:
- “I’d rather avoid that.”
- “Let them come.”
I chose the second option, “Let them come,” and finished Andrei off.
Branching Point – Conversation with Ocha
If You Kill Andrei
After Andrei is killed, Ocha enters and admits that she had intended to make use of him rather than simply get rid of him.
You are given three dialogue choices:
- “You should have just told me the truth.”
- “You’re smarter than you think.”
- “You liar! You used me!”
I chose the first option, “You should have just told me the truth.”
Ocha then asks if she can meet Coen by the river to talk about what she should do next.
I agreed to meet her there.
Conversation with Ocha by the River <1>
Ocha asks whether Coen is hungry.
I chose the option indicating that he was somewhat hungry, after which she suggested catching some crayfish.
Two choices then appeared: one agreeing to give it a try and another saying that Coen did not want to get wet.
Since the opportunity was there, I agreed, which started the crayfish-catching section.
Conversation with Ocha by the River <2>
When Ocha says that she has a place back home but feels constrained there, you can choose:
- “Do you miss home?”
- “Why do you want to travel?”
I chose “Why do you want to travel?”
You are then given another pair of choices:
- “New things can be exciting, sure.”
- “Meh. Nothing better than homemade food!”
I chose “New things can be exciting, sure.”
Finally, when asked whether the villagers helped Coen’s family with their farm, you can choose:
- “Our neighbours helped a bit.”
- “Other villagers just cared about themselves.”
I chose “Our neighbours helped a bit.”
Changes After Completing the Quest
If Ocha Leaves to Travel
After completing the quest, speak to Ocha by the river and ask her for combat training.
If you defeat her in the unarmed fight, Ocha will begin selling several types of Swordmastery Manual.
Things Still to Test
- What happens if you give Katja 400 Denarii?
- What happens if you do not step in to help the man during the timed decision?
- How do the different dialogue choices with Andrei affect the outcome?
- What happens if you take a hostile or dismissive attitude toward Ocha after killing Andrei?
- What happens if you do not collect the crayfish?
