This article covers the route I personally chose and the outcomes I was able to confirm. Branches resulting from other choices are currently being investigated.

Live Bait Overview

Yanna is afraid of the wolves and reluctant to go fishing.

Unable to ignore the situation, Coen decides to accompany her, Mirto, and Lunka.

When they reach the river and Coen puts a worm on a fishing hook as live bait, Yanna openly expresses her disgust. Lunka even begins crying because she feels sorry for the worm.

One of Brencis’s officers then happens to pass by and begins questioning Coen and his siblings.

An Uriash soldier intervenes, saying that he wants to avoid needless killing, and defuses the situation.

Yanna appears to reconsider her opinion of them, saying, “I thought the Uriash were Beasts, but it turns out they can be reasoned with after all.”

Starting Location and Requirements

After leaving the house during Withering Away, speak to Yanna near the house in Prologue.

The quest begins if you then choose the response offering to help them fish at the stream.

Time Cost

Completing the quest requires at least 1 Time Segment.

If you choose to cheer up Mirto and Lunka by playing tag with them when they complain about going to the river, you will spend 1 additional Time Segment.

If you choose this option, Coen begins coughing during the following cutscene. The conversation reveals that he damaged his lungs by inhaling too much dust in the Laslea Silver Mine ten years ago and is unlikely to live a long life.

Deadline

Unknown because I forgot to record it.

Quest Objectives

  • Walk your siblings to the river
  • Set up the fishing rods by the river

Live Bait Walkthrough

  1. Follow your siblings.
  2. Optional: Calm Mirto and Lunka by playing tag. Run up to them and interact with them to tag them. This consumes one Time Segment.
  3. Reach the river.
  4. Follow the tutorial and use Focus Mode to find the fishing rods hidden beneath a bush.
  5. Set up all four fishing rods.
  6. Watch the conversation cutscene to complete the quest.

Choices and Outcomes

Choosing to calm Mirto and Lunka by playing tag consumes one Time Segment and begins a short tag minigame.

Afterward, you can hear an emotional conversation about Coen’s past and his shortened life expectancy.

Nothing Happens After Setting Up a Fishing Rod?

You need to set up all four fishing rods, not just one.

Why Were the Uriash Called “Beasts”?

Depending on your choices, Yanna reconsiders her opinion of the Uriash, saying, “I thought the Uriash were Beasts, but it turns out they can be reasoned with after all.”

In medieval Europe, hostile foreign peoples and followers of other religions were sometimes described as “beastly” or “closer to monsters than human beings.”

The 13th-century monk Matthew Paris described the Mongols as follows:

“inhumani et bestiales, potius monstra dicendi quam homines”

This means, “inhuman and beastly, and more deserving to be called monsters than men.”

The passage continues by accusing them of drinking blood, eating human and canine flesh, and living without human laws, all of which served to portray them as terrifying outsiders.

In this context, “Beast” did not simply mean “wild and powerful” in a complimentary sense. It implied someone violent, brutal, and impossible to reason with.

Yanna’s observation that the Uriash “can be reasoned with” therefore indicates more than her finding them unexpectedly mild-mannered. It suggests that she has begun to recognize them as people with whom dialogue is possible.
